Dig your well before you are thirsty.
Well that makes plenty of sense doesn’t it?
Funny enough we don’t think about how this applies to ourselves. For example: the ‘recession’ that started in 2008. How many people did this affect? I don’t even know but what I do know is that a lot of people were out of work for a long, long time. Job’s literally dried up, industries suffered. Money jumped out of your pocket and ran for the hills!
So what am I saying…
If we had all taken personal responsibility to prepare, educate, plan, save, invest properly, stockpile and understand that not every day will be sunny, 2008 wouldn’t have been so bad.
So what do we do to prepare? What did I just say?… prepare, educate, plan…
Yes we all know that we need to go to school. But I’m not talkin bout no school! I’m talking about self-education. Taking charge of what you learn. Turn off the damn TV, put your phone away, drop the fiction book. Start learning about your environment, economy, economics, business, health care, personal growth, yoga, meditation, growing industries etc. Where do you find this valued information? You can start by ‘googling’ it. Go to a book store. Read magazines. Listen to podcasts. Go to networking events. Take a college course. Take an online course. Get it?
Draw out a rough plan to follow. You might not end up following it to the ‘T’ but it will give you a good idea of where to go. Good thing about life is you can draw a line anytime you want and start over. You have to live with the consequences of your actions, yes, but you can forgive yourself, learn from the mistakes and keep going. I’ve found that reading books on personal growth are actually helpful. Not all of them are good, but over time you will learn which ones to go to and which ones to avoid. If you are really, really smart you’ll ask super successful people what they read. I guarantee you they have a book list. I’m not a millionaire but I still have a long book list that never seems to get shorter.
The other categories I listed above are more for ideas. Actually this whole post is about ideas.
The one thing I wish for you to do, is start thinking for yourself. Get your head out of the sand and realize that no one is going to make money for you, unless it’s you. No one will make you grow unless it’s you. No one will take responsibility for your actions but you. Your best weapon is your mind, and willingness to have an open and absorbing mind.
You now have the wheel. So drive the car.
